Late edition to the calendar so I can coach my son Nik into his first 200k. Mostly sunny with a start around freezing. We'll warm to maybe 60F. As good as it gets for a late fall ride. For the non-gravel riders, come on out and enjoy a last bravado before the winter season starts.
This is a shortened version of our Twine Ball or Bust 300k ride as riders will not see the legendary "Biggest Ball of Twine Minnesota" - Weird Al Yankovic. From Golden Valley we'll head out (mostly on trails) to Wayzata, Minnetonka, Mound, St. Bonifacious and Waconia (first stop). Then continue on the Dakota Trail through Mayer and Lester Prairie where we'll finally leave the Dakota Trail around mile 45. I hope we'll still have decent fall foliage, it will be beautiful.
Then heading north through Winsted (Casey's gas station stop or a more leisurely stop at the Coffee Cove, a locally owned coffee shop), Howard Lake to Maple Lake. Currently it looks like we'll have a nice tailwind for that long stretch heading North. Another highlight will be heading downhill towards Buffalo with a nice view over the Lake. We'll then work our way back to the Crow River (on our left) as we head into Rockford and then slowly work our way back to the city.
Please park at the East side of the Lund's & Byerlys parking lot closest to highway 100. Bring reflective gear and lights, just in case. I expect Nik and I will be using it.
