General News
The RUSA Permanents program is likely to start up soon (early August?) which will give all of us the chance to get out for some official RUSA rides and start the process of returning to ‘normal’. No word yet on an August opening for brevets and populaires but the current spikes in several states make it doubtful at this point.
Keith Morical is nearing the end of his amazing 7,100 mile trek touching 48 states. As of Monday evening, Keith has covered 6,530 miles, with only 570 miles remaining and is tracking to reach Maine, his 48th state in the next 2 or 3 days which will be just over a month after starting in Oregon on June 14th. The current Guiness World Record is 43 days.
Minnesota Randonneurs Board Challenge series for July 6-12.
Some of you may have noticed that this bulletin is now going out on Mondays instead of Sunday evenings. I found that some of you don’t post all your results until either really late on Sunday or Monday morning so by waiting just a bit, the picture is more complete. Please do continue to post and especially, get out and ride, ride, ride. As a group we cranked out 11,200km worth of qualifying rides just last week!
Many of you may have heard about the Hudson Valley Randonneurs (HVR) V-Series of challenge rides that kept a lot of randonneurs like us busy from April through June. It was a lot of fun working to reach their goals and to follow other riders on their quests. It was a bit of a let down when this program ended at the end of June and RUSA pushed back the start of the season through July. Fortunately, George Swain has revitalized HVR with a new series of challenges to keep us focused.
To learn more about this fun, informal set of rando challenges, check out Hudson Valley Randonneurs on Facebook. It is easy to join and the latest news can be found in the Announcements section on the HVR group page.
Our Minnesota Randonneurs Strava Club membership is now at 115

This Past Week’s Challenge (July 6-12) was to mellow out a little. We did that, but some riders had outstanding weeks:
11 riders completed 23 rides of 200k (124 miles) or longer. Norman Ehrentreich rode to Duluth for breakfast then home again, covering 339.5 miles in a little under 29 hours. Keith Morical rode 1,600 miles in his 48 state quest averaging nearly 230 miles/day. Reid Nimz completed his first 200k ride of the season.
